"Find Your Strength." - Spaulding Rehabilitation Network

Biography
Hello, my name is Kyle Pearson. I was born in New Hampshire, raised in Massachusetts, and received my degree in Rhode Island. When I was younger, I tried several competitive sports including soccer, basketball, and baseball, but none of them piqued my interest. I have also been skiing since the age of four. This has been a passion throughout my life and still is. I have also been sailing throughout my life, primarily on larger boats until I began college where I started sailing on smaller boats. Soon after, I took up a job at The University of Rhode Island Sailing Center. I also enjoy 20+ mile road cycling outings, and recently weight lifting. Although participating in competitive sports has never interested me, I have always enjoyed being a spectator, and as I progressed through college with my Kinesiology degree, I have gained a deeper appreciation for competitive sports.
My story of how I came to work as an intern at the McGraw Center starts many years back. I have seen how physical therapy can have such a significant impact on individuals, both firsthand and with others, and have wanted to help other people in a similar way. Later on when I was applying to college, I found that The University of Rhode Island offers kinesiology as a major with a pre-professional path that can lead to physical therapy . The following summer, I was introduced to a physical therapist who works for Spaulding Rehabilitation Network on the North Shore of Boston. She had a volunteer opportunity involving adaptive sports that I took on that summer while I wasn't taking classes. During my senior year, I was starting to plan for my internship. I got in contact with Spaulding Rehabilitation Network about a possible internship opportunity that I could be connected with, which is when the McGraw Center, an extension of the adaptive sports center that is based out of Spaulding Rehabilitation Network's Cape Cod branch, was first brought to my attention, which is where I completed my internship. Please explore my portfolio to get an insight into my internship.
